Mabbett is happy to have been part of the USFS team supporting the acquisition of 2,700 acres of wilderness in the Blackwater River Watershed strechign from Douglas Falls to Hendricks, WV, in Tucker County. This wild and picturesque canyon is undergoing intensive investigation and remediation following early 20^th century logging, coal mining, and coke production. As part of the USFS team, Mabbett reviewed the existing conditions, the ongoing remediation efforts, and the impacts to the local media. These lands are now open to the public for recreation while USFS continue with its mission of land conservation and management.
